Kalahari Melon Seed Oil comes from Citrullus lanatus and brings something particularly close to home to Zanna: a genuine South African skincare research story.
The oil has a fatty-acid profile naturally rich in linoleic acid, a lipid widely valued in skin-conditioning and barrier-support formulations.
A peer-reviewed 2017 study evaluated Citrullus lanatus seed oil in 20 healthy adult women. During the short-term clinical assessment, the oil was found to be non-irritant, while instrumental measurements showed reduced transepidermal water loss and increased moisture retention following topical application.
Chemical analysis of the oil used in the research found linoleic acid to be its largest fatty-acid component, at 51.4%. That combination of lightweight emollience and an interesting lipid profile makes Kalahari Melon Seed Oil especially appealing in skincare where moisturisation is important without creating the feeling of a heavy, overly rich formulation.
Why we use it at Zanna
We include Kalahari Melon Seed Oil in Zanna Clarifying Moisturiser to provide lightweight emollience and help support comfortable, moisturised skin.
