Niacinamide: The Science Behind Brighter, More Even-Looking Skin

Niacinamide is one of skincare’s most researched multitaskers. A form of vitamin B3, it is particularly interesting for breakout-prone skin because it has been studied for both skin barrier support and uneven pigmentation.

One of the best-known studies, published in the British Journal of Dermatology, found that topical niacinamide significantly reduced hyperpigmentation and increased skin lightness after four weeks. Laboratory work within the same study suggested that niacinamide works partly by reducing the transfer of melanosomes - the structures containing pigment - between skin cells.

Other research has examined niacinamide-containing formulations and found beneficial changes in the stratum corneum, the skin’s outer protective layer.

For skin that is prone to breakouts, this combination is especially relevant. Once a blemish disappears, the uneven-looking mark it leaves behind can remain visible long afterwards. Supporting the skin barrier while helping improve the appearance of uneven tone makes niacinamide a valuable ingredient in a considered skincare routine.

Why we use it at Zanna

Niacinamide is a key active in Zanna Radiance Serum, selected to support a healthy-looking skin barrier and a clearer, more even-looking complexion.
